I live in Belltown, one of Seattle's most dynamic and interesting urban neighborhoods, just a few blocks uphill from the waterfront and not far from Pike Place Market.
Belltown is a pedestrian paradise. Parks, art museums, libraries, theaters, and restaurants are within easy reach, making this a great place to live and work.
You may see people using drugs or sleeping rough on the street in Belltown, especially during the warmer months. My city (rightfully) perfers not to treat homelessness or addiction as a crime, although our record on this is mixed.
Seattle is extremely safe compared to most American cities. Yet until we collectively decide to fund housing and healthcare for all, including the most vulnerable, we'll continue to witness this kind of suffering.
